Reese's Peanut Butter Bars | Sweet & Sorrel

Hey all,

Today’s post is a treat in more ways than one! I’ve been selected to participate in the Favorite Chef competition, and I am so excited! I started this blog as a passion project and a way to share recipes inspired by my Caribbean heritage. I’m honored to have a chance to present my food to an even wider audience, and hopefully one of my recipes will become a favorite in your home.

To celebrate being selected to take part in the Favorite Chef competition, I am sharing this recipe for homemade Reese’s!

Why Homemade Reese’s Bars?

I realize I don’t make many sweet treats for the blog, and that’s generally because I don’t really eat many sweet myself. But I am definitely a fan of Reese’s so I figured why not try to make them for the blog? Turns out they are way easier to make than I thought!

These homemade Reese’s bars taste just like the real thing! YUM!

Plus, since I made these, I decided to use dark chocolate instead of milk chocolate, to cut down on some of the sweetness of a traditional Reese’s. If dark chocolate isn’t your thing, swap in milk chocolate instead.

The recipe….

This is a no bake recipe that is really simple and straight forward.

First, combine crushed graham crackers, powdered sugar, softened creamy salted peanut butter, and melted butter. The mixture will look grainy, but it will taste smooth. It should be the texture of wet sand.

Pour the mixture into a parchment lined 8×8 baking tin and freeze for 20 minutes. Freezing is essential, because it allows the bars to take shape. Use a sharp knife to cut the bars into about 12-16 pieces depending on how big you want your bars.

Next, melt dark chocolate (or milk chocolate). I used a 9 oz bag of dark chocolate chips and popped them in the microwave for a few seconds. One trick is to stop the microwave before the chocolate is completely melted and use a spoon or fork to stir the chocolate until it is completely melted. This prevents the chocolate from seizing.

Dip the frozen peanut butter centers into the dark chocolate and set on parchment paper. Then immediately refrigerate again for at least 15 minutes. As an extra step, you can take the frozen bars out and drizzle with more chocolate.

Finally, sprinkle with flaky sea salt. No, this is not traditional to a Reese’s bar, but it gives an extra dose of flavor that is sooo delicious.
